Inlinr vs ccusage
ccusage: Local CLI that reports AI coding assistants' token usage and cost.
ccusage is a free command-line tool that reads the session logs of Claude Code, Codex and other coding assistants on your machine and prints tokens and estimated cost. Inlinr reads Claude Code's logs through its plugin, and puts the result next to the time you spent, per project, across every machine you use.
Choose ccusage if
- · You want token and cost reports with no account and nothing uploaded.
- · You want the 5-hour usage blocks and a live status line.
- · You also use Codex or other assistants: it reads their logs too, Inlinr only Claude Code's.
Choose Inlinr if
- · You want tokens next to coding time, per project and per week.
- · You work on several machines and want one total.
- · You bill AI-assisted work to clients, or report it to a team.

| Feature | Inlinr | ccusage |
|---|---|---|
| AI assistants | ||
| Claude Code tokens and cost | Yes | Yes |
| Both count input, output, cache creation and cache reads separately, which is what makes a cost estimate honest. | ||
| Rate-limit windows | No | Yes |
| ccusage shows Claude's 5-hour billing blocks. Inlinr does not. | ||
| Tracking | ||
| Coding time | Yes | No |
| ccusage reports tokens, not time. Inlinr tracks the editor and the assistant, so you see what an hour of work cost in tokens. | ||
| Several machines, one view | Yes | No |
| ccusage reads the logs of the machine it runs on. Inlinr adds up every machine and cloud session you connect. | ||
| Privacy and setup | ||
| Nothing leaves your machine | Counts only, no prompts | Yes |
| ccusage is entirely local. Inlinr sends token counts, model and project — never prompts or replies — to its servers in Germany. | ||
| Setup | Sign-in and plugin | One npx command |
| ccusage runs with one npx command and no account. Inlinr needs a GitHub sign-in and the plugin installed once. | ||
| Product | ||
| Open source | Plugin only | Yes |
| ccusage is MIT-licensed. Inlinr's transcript parser lives in its open-source Claude Code plugin; the server is closed. | ||
| Price | ||
| Price | Free plan | Free |
| ccusage is free. Token tracking is on Inlinr's free plan too. | ||
Using both
They do not compete for the same job. Many people keep ccusage for a quick look in the terminal and use Inlinr for the weekly and per-project picture.
